Our toddler diaper bag doesn’t look all that different from our newborn diaper bag but I feel confident leaving the house without multiple changes of clothes, nursing pads, and muslin blankets now! Here are our toddler diaper bag essentials for little ones 12 months and up!

The Bag

  • Fjallraven Kanken 15” Laptop Backpack — This backpack makes the perfect diaper bag because it unzips all the way around when laid flat and the laptop portion can be used to separate out diapering supplies for easy access.

  • Fjallraven Kanken Art Toiletry Bag — This toiletry bag has tons of interior pockets. It is divided into two main compartments. I use it to separate feeding supplies like a burp cloth, bib, and spoon from other toiletries like lotions.

Feeding Supplies

  • Puffs + pouches — The Happy Baby Organic Superfood Puffs are our current favorite brand. I searched for puffs that weren’t filled with high fructose corn syrup.

  • Sippy cup — I usually keep the Munchkin Miracle 360 Trainer Cup in our diaper bag because it doesn’t spill. Rooney prefers and open cup or straw so the Munchkin Weighted Straw Cup is another great option. We’re still working on transitioning her from a bottle to a cup so we have been experimenting with a few options to find one she is most comfortable using.

  • Bib and spoon — We are pretty faithful to our Gathre bibs. The bonded leather wipes down easily with mild soap and water. They can also roll or fold up so they don’t take up much space. I usually put a baby spoon in the pocket and roll it up before I place it in the toiletry bag.

  • Burp cloth — I prefer to have a reusable cloth on hand in case of spills or spit up. I don’t use a burp cloth as much anymore but you never know when you’ll need it!

Toys

  • Lovey — We usually have some sort of lovey blanket or plush animal for naps on the go. We bought this Organic Farm Buddies Kozy Koala in Canada and I just love the gentle rattle inside. It’s so sweet to watch Rooney hug her dollies now.

  • Books — I keep a small board book in our bag to keep my little one entertained if we go out to eat. Little Green Frog is a great option. It’s chunky and small but still has the lift-the-flap features.

  • Rattle — My older sister gifted Rooney this B Toys Rain-Glow Squeeze Light Up Rattle for her baptism and she’s loved it ever since! It gently glows in alternating colors of the rainbow and she likes to chew on the handle portion.

  • Keys — I keep my wallet in the diaper bag when we go out so let’s be honest, sometimes baby girl actually gets my keys. I also have a set of plastic keys that I keep on a ring with a few toy links. It’s a great toy to attach to a high chair/shopping cart cover.

  • Teething Rings — In addition to the rattle and keys that double as teethers, we also keep this Nibblit Cactus Baby Teething Toothbrush on a pacifier clip. Rooney loves to chew on it and it’s getting her familiar with brushing!

Diaper Supplies

  • Diapers and Wipes — I love the Pampers Pure diapers and wipes. They’re free of a lot of skin irritants and seem to fit well. We never have issues with leaks!

  • Changing pad — We use to Gathre Micro+ as our changing pad. Like the bib, it’s easy to clean and folds up small!

  • Diaper cream — The Burt’s Bees Diaper Rash Cream is a great size to travel with and I feel good about the ingredients!

  • Doggy Bags — We have two dogs at home so we have pet waste bags on hand but I think they’re great for throwing away diapers in public places or if you’re at a friend’s house without a diaper pail. Keeps smells at bay!

Misc Health Supplies

  • Sunscreen — Rooney spends a lot of time outside so we carry around the Babyganics Baby Sunscreen just in case we find ourselves in the direct sunlight for any extended amount of time. I love the Babyganics brand because it applies more easily than some of the other zinc oxide sunscreens.

  • Hat — We keep a Patagonia ballcap and a bucket hat in our bag. The bucket hat offers more ear protection at the pool!

  • Sunglasses — My husband works for an outdoor retailer and discovered Babiators baby sunglasses. Rooney has just started to wear them again without pulling them off! She has light colored eyes and we try our best to protect them from the sun.

  • Extra paci — I discovered the Ryan & Rose Cutie PAT Pacifiers on Instagram and we have them in quite a few girly colors now. I usually keep an extra soother without a clip on hand in case I lay Rooney down for a nap. I prefer for her not to sleep with the clip attached.

  • Hand sanitizer — I carry the Babyganics hand sanitizer in our diaper bag and in my purse! I like to foaming formula and the fact that it’s fragrance-free. It’s great after using public restrooms, changing diapers, or generally just touching anything when we go out.
