Max Patch on Film

I was anxious to login to our account and see how everything turned out. Like I mentioned in last week's weekend link roundup, we tried to follow some tips from the Plant Based Traveler and a video tutorial from the 1980s demonstrating the Nikon FG manual that I found online. Based off of that video, I knew that I wanted to ease back into film by shooting in Aperture Priority mode since I didn't anticipate taking any action shots where I'd need too much creative control over the shutter speed. I also challenged myself to shoot a whole roll just on Max Patch. I wanted to isolate as many variables as possible for this roll.

Kanuga

It's hard to describe how Kanuga makes me feel. It's a home away from home year after year. It's the only place I've ever been where I don't feel 100% tied down to my phone (i.e. no answering work emails after hours) and what's going on at home. It is also the only place where I don't have to worry about locking the doors. If you're looking for a realxing, all-inclusive spot to book a trip or conference, check it out! Despite Alex's misguided feelings on the "stale bread", I keep coming back for the toast.

Max Patch

I was surprised by how few people were up at Max Patch during our hike. There were a few people leaving when we arrived and we were alone for the majority of our stay. There was only one other couple walking around while we were up on the bald but they were keeping to the other side. Because it snowed the night before, the trail was muddy and slippery. We trekked our way up carefully, trying to avoid the mud as much as possible. If you want to feel really out of shape, go take a hike! I kept stopping on the way up (because I'm wimpy) but each time we stopped it was a chance to take in a new view so in the end it was totally worth it to ascend the mountain slowly.

Packing for Cabin Weekend

I am far from being a pro at packing but over the years it has become easier for me to limit myself to just the essentials for a short trip. The past few times we vacationed, we elected only to bring carry on bags on the plane (which actually rules out this pack). Almost all of the clothes in my closet are the same five colors: denim / chambray, mustard yellow, black, white, and burgundy. It makes it very easy to mix and match things that I own. I basically dress in a capsule wardrobe unintentionally. Everything I packed for this trip can be worn together and layered to create more outfits than I need for this trip.

Scenes from Downtown Asheville, NC

It’s been over a year since my last trip to Asheville. We originally planned to go to an apple orchard but decided against it since the weather was still threatening rain. After grabbing a bit of lunch we decided to just walk around downtown for a bit. Since our trip was so short we mostly looked around outside but we did make time to stop in the Grove Arcade and the Mast General Store. Downtown Asheville was so busy yesterday!
