Simple Self-Care Tips for World Mental Health Day
Today is World Mental Health Day and as someone who has struggled with anxiety over the years, I thought it might be helpful to share a few simple self-care tips that have personally helped me get through some bad days:
Take a warm bath or a hot shower
Go for a long walk
Get out of the house
Take a break from caffeine and alcohol
Cook a comfort meal
Start a gratitude journal
Work on a puzzle
Practice deep breathing
Read a book
Dance and sing a song out loud
Phone a friend
I recognize that mental health is deeply personal and there is no one size fits all solution that will support each individual. I hope that these ideas will help you manage the day to day anxiety you may have. Just know that if you need to seek out medical help through therapy or prescription medications, you are not alone. I’ve had to navigate postpartum panic attacks and give myself a little grace as my hormones have struggled to find their new normal. I want to encourage you to reach within to figure out what works best for you. Don’t hesitate to reach out to someone you trust for love and support! This world is a difficult one to navigate but we are stronger together. We can do hard things!
