There’s a new kid on the block in downtown Augusta. The Southern Salad opened last month and we finally made it in person to see the new space. Brought to you by the owners of Fat Man’s, the restaurant prides itself on quick service, customizable veggie bowls, and locally sourced produce. It touts the slogan “clean greens in the dirty south” and wears it well.

The first time I tried The Southern Salad was at home. I was able to order online and my sister picked up our meal for carry out. You may have caught a glimpse of my custom creation in my last blog post. We’ve been making more and more trips out of the house so I was happy that our little family of three got to eat out together. I ordered the Bartow Caesar + chicken and was surprised by the generous portion of protein for the upcharge amount. Alex created his own salad bowl. The pickled watermelon is amazing if you like fruit but want a sour punch instead of the sweetness. The service was quick. You just go through the line and let them know what you want! It was probably faster than waiting in the drive thru line.

Outside there’s a great covered patio with a new mural by April King that’s sure to be an Augusta icon. It’s already blowing up on social media so of course we had to snap our own pic! I feel like my camera roll is quickly filling up with photos of just Rooney so I want to make more of an effort to take photos of Alex or have people take photos of the three of us when we go out.

Definitely plan to check out The Southern Salad if you’re looking for a quick, healthy dining option in the Augusta area. I know I’ve been waiting for one for a long time and I’m so happy to have them here!
