We are headed up to Kanuga for the weekend and I thought I'd share what I'm packing for a weekend at the cabin.
I am far from being a pro at packing but over the years it has become easier for me to limit myself to just the essentials for a short trip. The past few times we vacationed, we elected only to bring carry on bags on the plane (which actually rules out this pack).
Almost all of the clothes in my closet are the same five colors: denim / chambray, mustard yellow, black, white, and burgundy. It makes it very easy to mix and match things that I own. I basically dress in a capsule wardrobe unintentionally. Everything I packed for this trip can be worn together and layered to create more outfits than I need for this trip.
For our three day trip, I packed the following items:
- striped tee (will double as PJ shirt if warm)
- CofC long sleeve tee
- chambray button-up
- yellow sweater
- white long sleeve base layer shirt (will double as PJ shirt if cold)
- black leggings
- dark rinse jeans
- casual boots
- hiking boots
- Patagonia R3 Hoody
- quilted long coat
- boot socks
- blanket scarf
- PJ pants
- PJ cardigan
All of my clothes outside of the jeans fit inside the packing cube. I will wear one outfit up tomorrow in the car and keep my coat handy. I'm never sure what to expect with the weather. It was awfully windy here today which can drive the temperature down. I packed everything inside my 65L Osprey Aura and have plenty of extra room. I did not fill many of the side pockets and the main compartment is only about half full. I'll fill it up in the morning with towels and a hairdryer but will still probably have additional room if needed!
What I packed for this weekend is obviously a lot different than what I'd pack if we were camping or backpacking in Europe, but I wanted to share how I manage a minimalist wardrobe for a long weekend in the mountains! Let me know if you have any specific questions about the items I packed.
