We are still planning to build some raised bed planters but we got started a little too late in the year to make it happen this Spring. Hopefully by next year we will save up a little money to make that project a reality. Because we didn't plan far enough in advance, a few weeks ago we went to Lowe's and bought a bunch of plants to have a patio garden!
It's a little bit unusual to have a bunch of plants sitting on your deck railing, but we're trying are hardest to keep the puppies from eating all the fruits of our labor! Our deck gets a ton of sunlight throughout the day which is great for some plants but not so great for others. Luckily, we are starting to see the return of the daily sunshower which should help keep our plants nice and healthy. I've been watering at lunch and during the evenings. Next week we plan to start watering the lawn again to try to keep everything hydrated.
Here's a list of things we planted in our patio garden this year:
- black cherry tomatoes
- Japanese eggplant
- purple bell peppers
We're trying to cook more at home and the best way to make sure we're eating healthy and economically is to grow our own food! Since I took these photos our kale has nearly doubled in side! I think next week we may harvest it for dinner.
Do you have a patio garden at home? What things did you plant this year? If you live in the South I'd also love to hear your tips growing your plants through the unbearably hot and dry summers.
