Our Engagement - May 26, 2013

The weekend we got engaged we sat through Memorial Day traffic on the way to Alex’s Beard Competition through the Holy City Beard and Moustache Society. I was too tired to make it through the whole night and went back to our hotel room alone. The next day we had planned a picnic at the beach but I didn’t feel well enough to venture out so far in the heat. We spent the afternoon at the aquarium and then sat outside in Liberty Square to enjoy our charcuterie. After asking when I first knew I loved him and telling me his side of our story, Alex pulled a beautiful vintage engagement ring (a family heirloom) out of his pocket and popped a mini bottle of champagne he had somehow managed to hide in the picnic basket without me knowing. He told me I needed to look at the ring but my eyes were too full of tears to see clearly and I was excited regardless of how it looked! I was quick to call my mom and Nana. It was then I found out we had a room at a bed and breakfast waiting, not a spare couch at a friend’s house. We celebrated in the private garden with fruit, veggies and wine before having our first meal as an engaged couple at Bocci’s. It was a surreal moment. The following day we had a mini photo shoot with Olivia Rae James. I’m so glad these turned into our engagement photos. It’s a weekend I will always cherish. Over a year later I can’t help but smile at these photos
