Giving Thanks

I know I'm a little late, but I wanted to reflect on Thanksgiving before it's December. I say it every month, but I can't believe another month has come and gone already. This year is wrapping up quickly and I'm not quite ready for it to come to an end!

Thanksgiving is in many ways my favorite holiday. No one expects gifts. There’s no pressure to spend money. We get to spend time with our family and indulge a delicious meal together which is something we don’t get to do all the time. It felt a little strange to be traveling on Thanksgiving day instead of taking part in our normal traditions this year. The past few years as a married couple we’ve woken up to take a walk together (and with the dogs) then cooked a big breakfast and turned on the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade and the dog shows. You can read about last year's Thanksgiving here.

While we missed out on those things this year, there was something more special about waking up at 4 a.m. to catch a flight and hugging our cousins goodbye in the 18-degree windchill. I wouldn't trade it for the world. We were able to create priceless memories in Ottawa and I can't wait to share them with you all soon.

Last year I participated in a 30 Days of Thanks Challenge. I failed miserably this year. I only made it half-way through the month before I realized we were about to head out on a vacation that I needed to finish planning! I thought I might share some of the things I jotted down at night that I was thankful for anyway.

Things like:

Quiet time to relax, rest and recover
All the colors associated with fall, but especially morning that start with pink and blue sunrises
Old and new friends who keep us social on the weekends
My own patience and the patience of others as we switched phone providers
A husband who helps tremendously with all the chores on his days off
Days when I don't have to cook or do the dishes
Being able to spend time with loved ones for the holidays
The luxury of on-demand TV for days when we feel like binge-watching shows
...and the motivation to get out of bed at 5 a.m. for the gym

I'm incredibly thankful for everyone who takes the time to read my blog posts week after week. Things may slow down a bit for the rest of the year so I can soak up the holiday season with family and friends but I'm excited to continue to grow this community.

What are you most thankful for this November?
