5th Avenue at the Rock
We didn't have much time to spend in the city on our last day but we wanted to make sure to see something before we left for the airport. We went back to Rockefeller Center to check out the Plaza because we didn't really take a look around when we went to Top of the Rock. This summer the Channel Gardens were transformed into a desert cactus garden called Sunsation!
Dieu et mon droit. God and my right.
This is the motto of the Monarch of the United Kingdom that is used outside of Scotland. The motto used in Scotland is "In my defens God me defend".
This sculptural piece is by Carl Paul Jennewein.
St. Patrick's Cathedral, the largest Roman Catholic Cathedral in the United States. Luckily, we got to see its Latin Cross Plan from above when we visited Top of the Rock! The sculptural detail of the spires are breathtaking.
We were really excited to see THE Saks 5th Avenue but we were probably more excited to do a little shopping at Topshop / Topman. The last time we were able to visit one was during our honeymoon in Edinburgh two years ago!
After walking around for a little bit we headed back to our hotel in Times Square to grab our backs and call an Uber. Our Uber driver was either the worst driver in the world or the best driver in the world. The car sickness we experienced makes me want to say the worst but the fact that he was able to maneuver in and out of the traffic and get us to Laguardia quickly makes me lean towards the best. If I'm certain of one thing, it's that I would NEVER want to drive in NYC. We love public transportation and it was definitely our best friend during our trip!
Overall we had a really great first trip to NYC. It was filled with lots of touristy things and completely exhausting. I'd be lying to say I wasn't anxious to get home to our new puppy and get back to our own routine. We spent way too much money (mostly on our meals) and it's time to recoup for the next big trip!
